I am constantly amazed by the stream of great content and information that comes through my Facebook and Twitter stream as well as my RSS feed.
Below are my top 20 stories I read in the last 7 days. You will see a variety of sources and authors.
I am a big believer in learning from outside our industry – sometimes that is where you get the best ideas. This is one reason I absolutely love our Real Estate Connect conferences. We bring in speakers and experts from outside the real estate field – their perspective and insight never fails to surprise or inspire me!
Special thanks to all of the talented writers and bloggers who publish great content day in and day out. Enjoy!

5 Must-Have Products for the Virtual Real Estate Agent
More and more agents are working from home and having a virtual office space. Brokerage’s across the country are re-evaulating their leases and lavish ‘palaces’ because the office is always half-empty.
Why? With all the rescources available to agent online, the need to come into a brick and mortar office day in and day out is not as important as it used to be.
Working virtually is not for everyone. You need discipline and a few great products to make your life easier!
Here are my top 5 products I recommend for working virtually:
- Smartphone. In this day and age, I think ALL agents need a smartphone, not just virual ones! My favorite is of course the iPhone, but there are other outstanding phones such as the Blackberry, Droid, and the Nexus One. Try each one, ask your colleagues and find one that works best for your needs.
- Laptop. If you are working virtually you need a light and fast laptop that you can grab and go! MacBook Pro is an excellent choice as well as the Dell Vostro V13. I still think there are tons of possibilities for the iPad. It’s still too new to see if it will be better than a laptop for agents. I am looking forward to see how this product evolves.
- Headset and or bluetooth. A must-have! In fact, just today, the new Bluetooth 4.0 was announced!
- Mobile broadband. Sprint’s Overdrive allows up to five of your team to get online at the same time and gives you access to faster WiMAX networks. Here is a great list to check out: Mobile Broadband Review 2010.
- A quiet space! Ok this is not a ‘product’ – but probably as important if not more important than everything else. Find or create a dedicated work space in your home or find a great coffee house to park yourself!
So the question remains – how often do YOU go into your real estate office? Everyday? A few times a week? Once a month? I’d love to hear your feedback on this subject – leave me a comment below!

Tip Tuesday: Do?s and Don?t of Sharing Personal Info on Facebook and Twitter
Invariably once someone gets really excited about social media – they tend to flip on a switch. It’s called the “over share” switch!
So how can you still remain authentic and personal not over share on Facebook and Twitter? Here are a few simple do’s and don’ts:
Do’s:
Share what you would at a dinner party when you meet someone for the first time.
- Where are you from?
- What area do you live in?
- Married? How long? Kids?
- Your job – how long? What do you specialize in?
- Hobbies/interests
- Organizations you are passionate about
- Recent travels
Don’ts:
- Tell your whole life story – no need to mention every move you make!
- Going into too much detail about your family – follow your own comfort level. Decide if you want to reveal ages, names, photos – some people are more comfortable with that that others.
- Other people’s kids – ask the parent’s permission first
- Your specific home address
- Political or religious – this is another personal choice, but I tend to avoid these topics on social media because they can be very polarizing topics.
Would love your opinions – please leave me a comment below!
